Article from the Times Star (June 3, 2009), written by Edgar J. Lavoie
Summary:
At GEDC’s April 19 th Annual General Meeting, presentations focused on the mining sector. The first presentation was by Glen Hart, of Roxmark Mines Ltd and a director of GEDC’s Board. He presented ‘Turning paper into gold’, a project on behalf of the Greenstone Mineral Development Initiative (GMDI). The goal was to compile and digitize mining exploration data to create 3D computer models to be made available for free for companies so that interested parties, anywhere in the world, can access and use them. It was discussed how 3D modeling has changed and affected the mining industry and how the new technology can be used. The second presentation was by John Korczak on behalf of Datamine Canada . Datamine created the technology used by GMDI. He demonstrated how the new technology, including the 3D models could be used to benefit the mining sector. The third presentation was by Katie Lucas of Premier Gold Mines Ltd who presented the ‘Hardrock Project’. This outlined Premier Gold’s exploration in the area. The last presentation was by Dr. Andy Fyon, Director of Ontario Geological Survey. His presentation focused on the importance of mineral resources and the role, jurisdiction, and activities of the OGS.
