MINISTER CLEMENT ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FOR SMALL BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES IN THE GREESTONE REGION

 

SMALL BUSINESS INITIATIVES                                               $408,500

Greenstone Economic Development Corporation

A FedNor contribution of $335,000 will support the Greenstone Economic Development Corporation’s (GEDC) operations for one year. The funding will enable this Community Futures Development Corporation, which is based in Geraldton, to provide small and medium-sized enterprises with access to capital and business counselling, as well as support for community economic development activities in its service area. An additional investment of $73,500 will enable GEDC to support small-scale regional economic development projects that will help communities adapt and compete in the global economy.

 

COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVES       $173,400

Corporation of the Municipality of Greenstone

With $125,000 in FedNor funding, the Municipality of Greenstone will commission a report which, among other things, will identify how the Municipality of Greenstone can best capitalize on opportunities related to the Ring of Fire. In a separate initiative, the city will use an investment of $48,400 to update its regional strategic plan, recommending priority projects for the region that would best prepare the municipality to take advantage of the increased mining activity in the region. and encourages the start-up and operation of successful enterprise in all economic sectors within the Greenstone region.
