As part of the ongoing community development projects, Greenstone Economic Development Corporation (GEDC) has received funding through the Northern Communities Investment Readiness Program administered by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund. The funding received is to conduct the Greenstone Region Investment Readiness program.
The goal of the Northern Communities Investment Readiness Program (NCIR) is to assist Northern Ontario communities in becoming Investment Ready. An Investment Ready community provides up-to-date comprehensive information on the community and region quickly for distribution. In addition, the project is designed to assist Northern Ontario communities involved in economic development to optimize and promote the local investment conditions to support local business growth and retention.
The Greenstone Region Asset Inventory is one of several steps in enhancing the investment attraction/retention factors that could assist the Greenstone region in becoming investment ready. The information collected from the study will be made available to the public via the ‘Invest In Ontario’ (www.investinontario.com) and GEDC (www.gedc.ca) websites.
This study will assist in further understanding the opportunities within the region, and present them to their potential client base. However, while the Asset Inventory is an important tool in assisting Greenstone to become Investment Ready, it is the web-based aspect of the NCIR program that is crucial to investors. Potential clients and investors expect to review all of the community’s information on a portal or website within minutes, in order to make decisions on whether or not the community satisfies the investor’s criteria. The information collected from the Greenstone Asset Inventory will be available online and will therefore be accessible to potential investors and clients in a timely manner.
Greenstone Economic Development Corporation fosters and encourages the start up and operation of successful enterprise in all economic sectors within the Greenstone region. The Corporation is a community-based, non-profit organization administered by a volunteer Board of Directors.
